Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Once upon a time, deep in the heart of a whispering forest, there lived a family of bears. There was a great big Papa Bear, a medium-sized Mama Bear, and a little tiny Baby Bear. They lived in a charming wooden house with a roof covered in moss.
One bright sunny morning, Mama Bear made a big pot of delicious oatmeal porridge for breakfast. She scooped it into three bowls: a huge bowl for Papa Bear, a medium bowl for Mama Bear, and a little tiny bowl for Baby Bear.
“It is much too hot to eat!” said Papa Bear, blowing on his spoon. “Let’s go for a walk in the woods while it cools down.”
So, the three bears locked the front door (or so they thought) and went for a stroll.
While they were gone, a little girl named Goldilocks came walking through the forest. She had golden curls that bounced when she walked, but she was a very curious and rather naughty little girl. She saw the cute house and instead of knocking politely, she peeked through the window. Seeing no one inside, she lifted the latch and walked right in!
On the table, she saw the three bowls of porridge. The smell of honey and oats made her tummy rumble.
First, she tasted the porridge from the huge bowl. “Ouch!” she cried. “This porridge is too hot!” Next, she tasted the porridge from the medium bowl. “Ew,” she wrinkled her nose. “This porridge is too cold!” Finally, she tasted the porridge from the tiny bowl. “Yum!” she smiled. “This porridge is just right!” And she ate it all up, licking the spoon clean.
After eating, Goldilocks felt tired. She walked into the living room and saw three chairs.
She sat in the huge chair. “This chair is too hard!” she complained. She sat in the medium chair. “This chair is too soft! I’m sinking!” she struggled. She sat in the tiny chair. “Ah,” she sighed. “This chair is just right.”
She settled in to rest, but she was much too heavy for the little chair. CRACK! SMASH! The legs gave way, and she fell to the floor with a thump.
Goldilocks picked herself up and went upstairs to the bedroom. There stood three beds.
She lay down on the huge bed. “This bed is too high!” She lay down on the medium bed. “This bed is too lumpy!” She lay down on the tiny bed. “This bed is just right,” she whispered, pulling up the covers. Within moments, she was fast asleep.
A little while later, the three bears came home, hungry for their breakfast. Papa Bear looked at his bowl. “Someone’s been eating my porridge!” he growled in his great big voice. Mama Bear looked at her bowl. “Someone’s been eating my porridge!” she said in her medium soft voice. Baby Bear looked at his bowl. “Someone’s been eating my porridge,” he squeaked, “and they’ve eaten it all up!”
They went into the living room. “Someone’s been sitting in my chair!” growled Papa Bear. “Someone’s been sitting in my chair!” said Mama Bear. “Someone’s been sitting in my chair,” cried Baby Bear, “and they’ve broken it to pieces!”
They went upstairs to the bedroom. “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed!” growled Papa Bear. “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed!” said Mama Bear. “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed,” whispered Baby Bear, “and she’s still there!”
Just then, Goldilocks woke up. She saw the three bears staring at her—one big, one medium, and one small. She screamed in fright! She jumped out of bed, leaped out of the open window, and ran into the forest as fast as her legs could carry her.
She ran all the way home and never, ever went into a stranger’s house uninvited again. The three bears fixed the baby chair and ate a fresh batch of porridge, happy to have their quiet home back.
Moral of the Story: Respect others’ privacy and property, and never enter a home uninvited.
