Momotaro, the Peach Boy

Once upon a time in a peaceful village in Japan, there lived a kind old woodcutter and his wife who had no children of their own. One day, while the old woman was washing clothes in the gentle river, she saw an enormous, beautiful peach floating downstream. She carefully pulled it out and carried it home for dinner.

When the old woodcutter took his knife to cut the giant peach in half, the fruit suddenly split open on its own. Out popped a healthy, chubby baby boy! The old couple was overjoyed. They named him Momotaro, which means “Peach Boy.”

Momotaro grew up incredibly fast. He was strong, kind, and brave. However, their village was often terrified by scary ogres who sailed over from Ogre Island to steal food and frighten the people.

When Momotaro was a teenager, he decided it was time to stop the ogres once and for all. His parents proudly baked him a batch of the most delicious millet dumplings to take on his long journey.

As Momotaro walked toward the sea, a talking dog bounded up to him. “Where are you going, Momotaro?” asked the dog. When Momotaro explained his quest, the dog promised to help him in exchange for one of the delicious dumplings.

Soon, they met a clever, quick monkey and a swift, colorful pheasant. Momotaro shared his sweet dumplings with both of them, and they eagerly agreed to join the brave team.

The four friends rented a small boat and sailed to Ogre Island. The fierce ogres laughed when they saw a boy and three small animals. But they didn’t know the power of teamwork! The pheasant pecked from above, the monkey scratched and confused the ogres from the trees, and the dog bit their ankles, while Momotaro fought them bravely with his sword.

The ogre chief surrendered entirely. Momotaro and his fantastic animal friends returned to their village as absolute heroes, proving that even a small team can defeat large troubles.

Moral of the Story: Courage grows stronger with good friends. True strength does not come from size alone, but from working together and showing kindness.
