The Brave Little Parrot

It was the dry season, and a terrible, roaring fire suddenly broke out in a beautiful, dense bamboo forest. The flames leaped high into the air, burning everything in sight. All the animals—the tigers, the elephants, and the monkeys—fled in absolute terror, running as fast as they could away from the thick black smoke.

But a brave little green parrot refused to simply fly away. This forest was her home, and she loved all the creatures in it.

Instead of escaping, she flew straight to the nearest river. She dipped her small, colorful wings into the cool water until they were completely soaking wet. Then, she flew right back over the raging, dangerous fire, shaking her wings hard to let a few tiny drops of water fall onto the massive flames.

Then she flew back to the river and did it again. And again. And again.

A giant eagle flying safely above laughed out loud. “You foolish little bird!” the eagle squawked. “You are so tiny against the wind! A few drops of water will never put out a roaring forest fire! You will only get yourself burned.”

“Perhaps!” the dirty, exhausted parrot called back through a cough. “But I am doing the absolute best I can to save my home and my friends. I won’t give up!”

High above the clouds, the heavens watched her incredible, selfless dedication. They were so moved by her giant courage taking on an impossible task that they began to weep. Massive rain clouds gathered out of nowhere and poured a heavy shower over the entire forest, putting out the fire completely.

The mighty forest was saved, all because of the stubborn effort of one very small bird.

Moral of the Story: Doing your part always matters. Even the smallest effort, when done with a brave and loving heart, can create giant miracles.
